C-17 at South Pole

For the first time in the history of history, a C-17 flew over the south pole and made an air drop.

Update

I've exhausted my limited supply of clever titles for my posts.

Past the halfway point . . . of what?

X-mas is coming! I GET to work noon - 10pm on x-mas eve. Yeah!

Does Santa come all the way to the Antarctica? Does he have ECW?

Morale is running thin.

Insane Imaginings

hmmm, my radio show was a giant success!
Playlist: Guy Clark, Charlie Daniels Band, Johnny Cash, Marty Robbins.
I didn't get that many songs in, however, with all my ranting and ravings. I even managed to preach a little.

I had a really great hike/ski yesterday, here's some pics!

Update

25 days AP

187.5 lbs

767 days to go

Insane Imaginings, my radio show, starts up this Sunday @ 10pm. Can't wait! Should be an interesting, if not laborious, mixture of eclectic music, npr news, drunken drawlings, spoken word, and, of course, insane imaginings! We broadcast under the Americans Armed Services network, which does not seem to be regulated by the FCC down here, so I have a bit more freedom than I would in the states. Furthermore, no one is listening, so it really doesn't matter what I say. Perfect.

Cookie day Wednesdays! Our crack team of bakers prepare freshly baked cookies for everyone on station every Wednesday! Over 3500 cookies! Certainly, they are not as fluffy, moist, or scrumptious as mom's chocolate chip cookies, but they come close. Its pretty nice having 5 bakers cook round the clock: fresh bread and desserts everyday!

Werner Herzog just got back from a week atop Mt Erebus. I think I'm going to choose a new profession.

2 new DA's flying in tomorrow. We are all a bit worried that the ragged and semi-sane condition of their co-workers may send them right back on the plane.

MSNBC is here

Two reporters from msnbc are here and posting daily entries on the msnbc website. Truth be told, they're kind of lame, but if you're interested, here's the url: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/15834019/
There is a quip about my home, the galley. I was EXTRA nice to the photographer, and even posed for some great pics, but he didn't publish the photos as he promised. Like most McMurdo citizens, I am ready for the whiny bastards to leave.

Update!

So,
here's a quick summary of whats going on in my fragmented and fleeting mind:

- My lone penguin sighting is still managing to sustain me

- My chollo boss has taken quite a 'shine' to me

- Morning ski sessions

- 75 hours per week with the EXACT SAME group of people. I feel like I'm on the front lines of WW1: trench foot, noxious gases, entire weeks are spent with the same people in the same 10 sq foot area. Wait . . . am I on the winning or losing side?

- Video cameras everywhere! Everyone and their dog is interested in filming the galley at McMurdo station. MSNBC, NOVA, PBS, and Werner Herzog have all interviewed us and filmed the dish and pot room (Werner was wearing a Badgers sweatshirt and said he LOVED Wisconsin!). I must be missing something here! I keep telling them, we're just a bunch of college educated suckers scrubbing pots. There's nothing novel, nothing interesting here. Just pot scrubbing. Nevertheless, they appear incessantly interested in learning abouth the 'dishwashing experience'. I always tell them, "I'll give you an apron and a scrubbie and you can truly come to know the 'antarctic experience'". For whatever resaon, however, they always seem to decline.

- Skirt night at Scott Base. The cross-dressing is starting to lose its novelty.

- 'Insane Imaginings', my radio show, every Sunday night at 10pm, where full grown men become children.

- Snow, trees, stars . . . I miss you so!

- Sleep depriva . . . aaaa . . . uh . . . huh . . . thump . . .;dklghgh;dklga'sjgl
