Update
aaaaauuuuuugeeeeooohhhhh!
STATS
184 lbs
2/18/07: departure date
73 days AP
719 days until Obama!
I've been spending a lot of time volunteering for Cargo the last two weeks. They have been training me on the loaders and some of the more odd vehicles designed for extreme environments like the Antarctic. In case I ever want to return to the most desolate place on earth, I'll have a well-paying travel job!
Yep, thats right, folks, only three weeks left. Three weeks until trees, stars, and my own room!
I signed up to be a WWOOFer (http://www.wwoof.org/) in New Zealand. Can't wait!

Marathon!
The marathoners being driven to the race trailhead in "Ivan the Terra Bus"
"Ivan the Terra Bus"
The starting line! Naive fools.
Well, I finished it! I may not have been the fastest. I may not have been the prettiest. But at least I skied it with a little hometown pride! MOOOOOOOOOO!!!!
Other competitors commented that my 'mooing' during the race really added to my costume. I told them, those weren't animal sounds, it was me crying out for my mooooooooooommy!
Cross your fingers!
This is a Satellite photo of the McMurdo Bay and Ross Sea. The small slit of water is the channel that the Oden and Polar Sea icebreakers have created. The black dot that the channel is leading towards is Observation hill and McMurdo Staion. The mountains in the bottom left corner are, I believe, the Royal Society Mountains.
Open water is only a few miles away! We are are crossing our fingers every night in hope of waking up to open water. Some Orca's have already snuck into McMurdo Bay via the channel, which hasn't been accessible to them for seven years, to feed in fresh hunting grounds. The fat seals, which have been sunbathing carefree all summer, better get in shape quickly.

More Penguins!
Hands down the cutest creature I have ever seen! And how amazing to get close to an animal that isn't deathly afraid of you!
This Adelie wandered into town and decided to take a nap in the middle of the road. Fearing for its life, the station manager quickly surrounded it with protective cones. I wonder, if a DA took a nap in the middle of the road, would the station manager shield the DA, or run it over? According to the Antarctic Treaty, a penguin has more rights than a DA!
